5 YEARS AGO (2019): Two hundred homes and businesses in Deka Lake and Sulphurous Lake got high-speed internet. The upgrade cost $157,725 conducted by ABC Communications, funded through the Connecting British Columbia program. The upgrade effectively meant that residents could now access the internet at download speeds of 50 megabits per second - which was enough to stream HD videos, work remotely as well as run a home business. It had come early - ABC Communications said that they had planned to complete the upgrade by March 2020.
10 YEARS AGO (2014): A shorthanded 100 Mile House Wranglers team faced off against the Kamloops Storm, who had been leading the Doug Birks division - in two games: one played in Williams Lake, and the other back in 100 Mile House. This came as Nick Headrick, Austin Turner, Tavis Roch and Stephen Egan all got called up to the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League. The 100 Mile Wranglers beat the Kamloops Storm 4-2 on Nov. 28 in Williams Lake, but were beaten themselves 5-3 in 100 Mile House.
15 YEARS AGO (2009): Local members of the 2887 Rocky Mountain Rangers Royal Canadian Army Cadets went to Lower Sackville in Nova Scotia - where they were hosted by members of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets HMCS Sackville. The 2887 Cadets had gone on a bus ride to Kelowna and then had flown to Toronto, then to Halifax where they went on a bus ride to CFB Shearwater. No training sessions occurred as according to then Second Lieutenant Shawn Dulmage, it had been a life experience and a chance to see the other end of the country. The 35 cadets also got to tour the HMCS Sackville, which is the last surviving flower class corvette from the Second World War.
20 YEARS AGO (2004): 100 Mile House RCMP were tracking a decrease in young offenders they were coming into contact with. According to a system tracking this data only 14 youth had been charged with criminal offenses compared to 97 in 2001. Then Sgt. Warren Dosko said that there was an around 50 per cent reduction overall. He credited Safer Communities and the 100 Mile House's Youth Resource Centre for playing a significant role in the reduction of youth crime in 100 Mile House.
