5 YEARS AGO (2020): The 100 Mile Free Press profiled Maya Geerts, a Grade 12 Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School (PSO) student, who had been devoting at least two hours a week to volunteering for the community. Heather Woods, the career assistant for PSO at the time, had praised her by calling her reliable, efficient and having no problems with encouraging other kids to volunteer. Geerts stated that she was planning on attending the University of British Columbia with a focus on earning a Bachelor's degree in Science. Geerts had been volunteering at the 100 Mile General Hospital since Grade 9, and had also been volunteering at the Oktoberfest at the 108 Mile Community Hall and as a referee at the 100 Mile Minor Soccer Association.

10 YEARS AGO (2015): On Dec. 20 of the year prior, the 100 Mile House Dairy Queen reopened to the public, with co-owner Amarjit Janda saying he was 100 per cent pleased to reopen the local restaurant after renovations had been made to the building. In May of 2014, Janda visited 100 Mile House and got the ball rolling on the purchase with his business partners Sukhi Singh and Parm Arora - saying that he was shocked that the Dairy Queen was closed. Janda, who lived in Surrey, said that Aman Singh, his local manager would run the business. The first two visitors to the reopened location were Mardi and Tom Babcock.

15 YEARS AGO (2010): Members of the Olympic Torch Relay Celebration Committee met on Jan. 7 to tie up loose ends and prepare for the Olympic Torch to arrive in 100 Mile House on Jan. 28 for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Heidi Read, the committee chair, had given an update and requested information from the Vancouver Organizing Committee. The local committee was planning to celebrate at the South Cariboo Rec Centre (SCRC), beginning at 12:45 p.m. - with the torch set to arrive at 1:43 p.m. The celebration would begin at 2:09 p.m. and end at 3:14 p.m., where the torch would head north on Highway 97. The intention of the committee was to make the celebration a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the community.

20 YEARS AGO (2005): 100 Mile House RCMP had been looking for a lone suspect who had been involved in a robbery from the 100 Mile branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). At around 1:25 p.m. on Jan 4, a suspect had walked into the CIBC on Birch Avenue - had approached a teller, demanded cash and received an undisclosed amount. Cpl. Bob Gregorash said that upon receiving the money, the suspect had fled the area on foot with no injuries done to staff. Const. Diana Racine had suggested that the police may have had an image of the suspect, but told the 100 Mile Free Press it was not being released as it was part of an ongoing investigation.
