April Roberts and the 100 Mile Angels are gathering again this year to participate in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) CIBC Run for the Cure on Oct. 2 in Kamloops.
This is the sixth year Roberts and a team has participated, and most of team will don wings, feather boas, cowboy hats, or dust off their halos and wear pink to celebrate the cause.
"I have 10 members signed up now," says Roberts.
"Last year, we had 19 people on our team, and if anyone wishes to donate, they are welcome to go online to cibcrunforthecure.com, location Kamloops B.C., and join a team, enter 100 Mile Angels and go to bottom of page."
The CBCF CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research.
The run will meet at the Rotary Bandshell at Riverside Park in Kamloops. The final registration or donation drop-off is at 9 a.m., opening ceremonies start at 10, and the run starts at 10:30 a.m., with the awards celebrations at 11:15 a.m.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, says Roberts, and part of the of "100 Mile Angels" fundraising efforts this year will be the All Male Fashion Show on Oct. 15 at the 100 Mile Community Hall.
The fundraiser goes from 1 to 6 p.m., Roberts says, adding the $15 ticket includes a glass of wine or coffee, appetizers donated by Canada Safeway, a silent auction, baskets, door prizes and a 50/50 draw. Roberts notes no minors will be allowed at the show.
"The fashion show is put on by Frankie Vitorino from Outlaw Clothing Company and Rhonda Dobson from Class Act Formals.
"We are having some local businessmen on the runway including my husband, Al, Tom Bachynski, and Steve McPhail. It's going to be a fun day."
A couple of the silent auction items up for bid, a "pink" outhouse made and donated by Randy Scott, and a dozen eggs a week for a year.
"The eggs are a donation from Al and me and our girls [chickens]. It’s girls donating to the girls."
Tickets are available at A&B Roberts Video, A&B Photo, Class Act Formals, and Outlaw Clothing Company.
