Annual DL&LVFD summer fishing derby slated

Tickets now available at Wildmans, weigh-in and firefighters

The Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department (DL&DLVFD) is hosting its 31st Annual Summer Fishing Derby on Aug. 2-3.

There will be first-, second- and third-place prizes for the biggest kokanee, as well as rainbow and lake trout, and there will be many other prizes given to some of those present after the derby prizes are handed to the winners.

Children 12 years and younger will be in a separate prize category and every child will receive a prize.

There will be a pancake breakfast both days, and on Sunday when the derby ends, the DL&LVFD has special events and games planned for the children. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be available during the prize event.

The weigh-in stations is at Access #14 Burgess Road on Deka Lake. The derby goes from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. (sharp).

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years and under. Tickets are available at the weigh-in station, Wildmans Outdoor Store at Interlakes Corner or from any DL&DLVFD firefighter.
