There was a great turnout for the Youth Zone's open house on Sept. 30.

The Youth Zone is a free place where youths aged 12-19 years can go to hang out with their friends and have fun.

Chris Pettman, who is one of the many dedicated workers at the Youth Zone, organized this event so the adults could experience what the youths experience each day.

There were some great things happening at the open house, including games and a whole counter of delicious finger foods that were prepared by Bithia Chung.

Many people who attended the open house said they were impressed by the overall feeling they got from the environment. The way the area is decorated gives the building a very high-energy feeling.

Some people said their children were not old enough to come to the Youth Zone, but will definitely be coming once they are old enough.

Cobina Baillie says she enjoys baking cookies with the teenagers who come to the Youth Zone because she believes the best way to get a teen to talk is by feeding them. Baillie adds she also enjoys playing games with the teens, such as Dutch Blitz, which is a fast action card game.

A few 100 Mile House RCMP members also attended. Const. Samanthia Lukash said she likes the fact there are things for the youths to do there, such as playing games on the Xbox or making music on the guitars. She adds the Youth Zone keeps the teens out of trouble because they have something to do.

Overall, the open house was great. People had fun learning to play new games, such as Dutch Blitz, while they also learned more about what the Youth Zone has to offer the teenagers in our community.
