A chance to win by paper or pan

Deadline for annual Christmas story and recipe contests is 5 p.m. on Dec. 5

Pick up your measuring spoons or pens, as the 100 Mile House Free Press is holding its annual Christmas story and recipe contests.

This year's theme for the story is "Best Yuletide Surprise."

Most people have a Christmas season story, whether it's a true story or a fictional tale, to share with readers.

The story may make people smile or bring tears, be it history or hysterical, whimsical or factual, the Free Press would like to hear from you.

Stories must be signed and include the author's address and phone number, and be no longer than 500 words. Stories over 500 words may be disqualified; and the winning contestants will be published in our special Christmas Greetings coming out on Dec. 21.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category: senior, 50 years plus; adult, 20-49 years; teen, 13-19 years; and youth, 12 years and under.

The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on Dec. 5.

Recipes sought

The second contest is for all cooks and bakers in the area.

Send in a recipe of your favourite snack for Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner or that special yuletide bar. It could be a dish you are well known for, one you always take to potlucks or one the children beg you to make.

Send in the recipes and include a short story behind them (if you wish) and we will try to get as many as we can in the Christmas Greetings supplement.

Deadlines for this contest is also 5 p.m. on Dec. 5. Prizes for the recipes will be awarded by a random draw.

Drop your entries off at Free Press office at #2 Pinkney Complex, 536 Horse Lake Rd.; e-mail to newsroom@100milefreepress.net; or fax to 250-395-3939.

Remember to include your contact information.
