“It went great. Despite the cold weather, we had a really good turnout this year,” says organizer Jil Freeman regarding the Interlakes Outhouse Races.

About 12 to 13 outhouses were entered in a variety of categories including men, women and mixed, according to Freeman.

“I think we guessed about anywhere from [800] to a 1,000 people showed up for the event throughout the day.”

With it being the fifth year of doing it, she says they’ve got a better grip on what needs to be done.

The event also included a snow sculpture competition with about five entries this year.

“The winner was a canoe and trees. The second place was a bear fishing and the third place was a globe in a hand.”

People put a lot of creativity into the outhouses, she says. The people’s choice award went to an entry called the troll pooper, she says.

“[We’re] just really grateful for all the participants and all the people that came to watch despite the really chilly weather. We’re looking forward to hopefully getting to do it again next year.”
