Model planes will be waiting for take off at the 108 Airport

Come out to the South Cariboo Regional Airport at the 108 Mile Ranch on June 25-26 and get buzzed.

The 100 Mile Model Flyers Society is holding its Third Annual Fun Fly Air Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you get hungry, the 108 Lions Club will have a concession stand open for lunch.

"We have about 22 local members," says society member Bill Irvine.

"Last year, we had people come from the Coast, the Cariboo and the Okanagan."

People are invited to watch local and out-of-town pilots fly radio-controlled model airplanes, jets and helicopters.

The pilot, who has the jets, may come up with two or three, Irvine says, adding the jets have actual jet engines and have wing spans of up to six feet.

Noting the price of fuel [for vehicles] may be a drawback for some pilots to come up, Irving says he is still expecting great shows during the weekend.

"Last year, there were free trainer flights, where a person can try flying a plane."

He explains there are master and trainer radios, and if the master feels the trainer is running into problems, he can take over the controls.

"Admission is by cash donation with all proceeds going to the 100 Mile Food Bank. Last year, we donated over $700.
