Sheila Dick from the Canim Lake Band opened the International Women's Day 100th anniversary celebration with ceremonial drumming and a song in 100 Mile House on March 8.

Amongst festive balloons and decorations on every table, the 100th year of International Women's Day was celebrated at the Valley Room in the Lodge on March 8.

100 Mile House & District Women’s Centre Society executive director Terri Lewis was the master of ceremonies.

Sheila Dick opened the evening with a powerful rendition of drumming while singing the “Warrior Women's Song” and women’s centre chair Sandi Hutton gave the International Women's Day address.

The crowd was treated to a delightful speech by Frances Reid, a longtime Cariboo woman, on the trials and joys of living on a ranch with a family and all that entailed “back in the day.”

Billy Feistmantl and Heidi Read from Higher Ground Natural Foods shared information on the importance of self-care for women, and everyone was thrilled with the wonderful buffet put on by Trish Chung and her crew.

The Women's Centre would like to thank Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre for its contribution to the event and everyone who attended and donated non-perishables, and made the evening the success that it was.
