$1,000 in Christmas donations

Diana Forster’s regular correspondence for the Deka Lake area

The Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary’s (LA) Nov. 1 meeting welcomed new member Kathy Foster.

The ladies donated four turkeys to Interlakes Christmas Giftboxes and then determined recipients of their Christmas donations: $500 to the South Cariboo Health Foundation (medication carts); plus $250 each to Fischer Place and Mill Site Lodge.

Deka Lake & District Ratepayers’ Association recently moved Higgins Lake’s bulletin board adjacent to the mailboxes, thereby providing only one stop. The Beazley bulletin board at Deka was moved from out behind the mailboxes, where it ended up when the boxes were installed; and a pole for a solar light was added.

Hall of Fame

Deka’s Elmer Arrance added a feather to his cap Nov. 16, when the Central Okanagan Hockey Hall of Fame inducted him and his team-mates into their ranks. Elmer is one of the original Kelowna Buckaroos, 56 years ago. Congratulations!

Prairie James is instructing Yoga for All Ages, beginners and up, at Interlakes Community Centre. This runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Mondays on Dec. 11 and 18, and Jan. 8, 15 and 29.

Birthday bubbly goes to Joan Hanzel, Brittanie Kerr, Jenny Ostlund, Bev Traxler and Fran Vezina. Congratulations on Phyllis & Art Greenlees’ 63rd wedding anniversary.
