October a busy month for Community Club in Lac La Hache

October was such a busy month for the Community Club, it just seems to have flown right by. The weather was great, not too cold, or too wet judging by the notes I had written down or by the photos I saved. Mr. Winter gave us a trial run of what to look forward to on the weekend of Oct. 18 and 19, a howling blowing snowstorm that thankfully did not last exceptionally long.

The thrift store closed for the season on Oct. 12 with a five dollar and ten dollar bag day. Many folks out there were excited and happy with the treasures that they found. Not all the shelves or racks were empty but there was a noticeable dent in the stock. Plans are in the works to share a few of the leftover items with the Thrift store at 70 Mile - it is all communities helping each other.

The Thanksgiving bingo held on Oct. 9 was fun, we gave away five turkeys, cash prizes as well as door prizes. Bingo has now wrapped up its season as of Oct. 30 and will resume April 2025. Many thanks to all the folks that supported us throughout the season, and I am very pleased that once again the bingo players were very generous in their donations of nonperishable food items for the Xmas Hamper Campaign sponsored by the Lac La Hache Volunteer Fire Department, a great boost to the start of their campaign. Soon a person will see donation boxes placed all around the businesses downtown. If possible, have some items set aside to help fill them up as there are some needy families in the community.

The crib tournament held on Oct. 26 had a decent turnout, with about 35 or 36 players. The idea has taken off and there are now tournaments held at Williams Lake and 100 Mile also causing our turnout to be a bit smaller than expected. Regardless of that everyone had a fun time and totally enjoyed the spaghetti lunch.

The Flea Market held on Oct. 27 was a tremendous success with every table filled with goods. There were crafts, garage sale items, overflow Xmas items, vegetables and baking items. I could not believe it but there was an enclosed wagon load of puppies in the parking lot too! A person just never knows what they will find or see. All the vendors did extremely well as there were quite a few shoppers and folks mingling.

The arena is up and running and hockey has started up for the old timer’s league and public skating has also started. The club had free hot dogs and hot chocolate on the first skate and the next one had free hot dogs and refreshments sponsored by Rob and Bev Fry (Cariboo Radio). The cost for public skating is $10.00 per family or $5.00 for individuals over 12 years of age. There also is an assortment of skates available if anyone needs a pair. The very last item for fix up of the arena has started and at this time I am not sure if it has been completed or not. Big Sky was successful in their bid to repair the roof of all its leaks, and hopefully they are successful, and the sky is no longer visible.

November started out with a skiff of snow and that is normal since then to the time of my writing. The Lac La Hache Co-ed Hockey had their first evening skating on Nov. 1, 13 skaters came out to have some fun. The drop-in fee is very reasonable at $10.00 – if any information is required anytime about this event, please call Bev Fry at 706-8418.

The Christmas Bazaar and Craft Fair was on this weekend at the Community Hall. Judging by the number of cars in the parking lot I would say it was an enormous success. I hope you all had a chance to pop in and check it out.

There are other events to look forward to in November, I hope I remember them all and do not forget any.
