May was a very interesting month! Some spectacular things happened – light shows, lovely or fiery sunsets, thunder, lightning and even some fires!

My goodness, sure put me in mind of 2017, hearing the bombers and the helicopters. We even had a taste of the good old days, no power, no phone and definitely no internet. Good thing that part did not last very long!

More folks came out to the arena and community club meeting in May. Many ideas were presented as to how and what to do for fundraising for the arena.

It was unanimously voted to transfer enough money in to order the supplies and parts needed to start the repairs. Some parts could take some time to arrive and we would like to have the work completed by start-up in the fall.

Several grants were found in the system and would be applied for, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we will receive some outside help.

Exciting news though, the club received a generous donation (in memory of father Joe Schembri) from Frances Ellison to purchase the scoreboard that came available from the 100 Mile arena. We would also like to thank Norm and Diane Wood for their generous donation of cans and bottles. Every little bit helps.

The arena will be used by the South Cariboo Pickleball Association again this year during the summertime. Their volunteers have already cleaned and washed the floors and will be repainting their lines. There will be a pretty busy schedule for them as they hope to start up at the beginning of June.

Beginners and novices will use the arena on Wed 6:30-8:30 p.m., intermediate and advanced will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. is open play. The club currently has 65 members and is a very active group.

The craft fairs/sales have also been a huge success. It seems like something was going on every weekend.

The largest one was held at the Pioneer Centre and had tons of activities, live music, good food and lots of vendors. There was something for everyone, even some guinea pigs for the little children to cuddle and hold!

Those little guys were found in the booth that was selling cotton candy, popcorn and beverages – many thanks to Lois Hazard, Natasha Hayes, Alex and Samara Masun. All the proceeds from this booth went to help the Rolf Zeis Arena as well as some sales from Hache Hip, it was all greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to the organizers Heather Balaam and Lori-Lyn Graham for a job well done. There were many people involved that deserve a thumbs-up for donating their time, products and services. The weather was great and positive remarks all around that this should be an annual event.

The committee for the South Cariboo Garlic Festival has been keeping very busy. They report a full house with 75 vendors signed up and a waiting list of 30 more.

The committee has also been meeting with traffic management, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to see how they can improve on the traffic flow on the festival days. Many thanks for all your hard work and we are all looking forward to the festival.

The idea of a flea market is catching on – the next one scheduled is for June 25 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Stop on by and check it out.

Fishing has also been great on the lakes with several pretty nice ones being netted. Congratulations on all those great catches!

Even though it is not skiing season the Mt Timothy Lodge and restaurant is open daily from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon.
