The inaugural R&R Fair, which will highlight recreation and resources in 100 Mile House, is garnering good results with booth registrations.
It takes place Oct. 5 at the 100 Mile House Junior Secondary gym and a lineup of 33 local organizations were on board by late September.
Welcoming Communities (WC) co-ordinator Kimberly Vance says the registration list is growing longer every day.
"We want to welcome families and people of all ages to come out to the recreation and resource fair. We have a lot of activities for families because we have the bouncy castles, free face painting and we're going to have the pancake breakfast by donation."
Vance notes the Taoist Tai Chi will be offering insight into its local club for seniors and others looking for low-impact exercise and enjoyment.
"The local private gyms will be there – Focus Fitness, Action Fitness and Curves. So, adults can come and actually meet the trainers and the owners and ask questions, sign up, so they don't have to go to all the gyms."
These and other clubs and groups can offer information without giving folks the feeling they are committed to join up, she explains.
The Mill Site/Fischer Place Auxiliary is flipping the fundraising flapjacks, Vance adds, and Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School students have volunteered to do the face painting.
The bouncy castles are provided by Canlan Ice Sports, which is partnering with Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy's WC and the South Cariboo Community Planning Council to put on the fair.
"For people of all ages, it is good to come out. It's free, and it's central in town at the 'Junior' gym."
She explains the R&R Fair is a pre-launch to a spring/summer 2014 South Cariboo Active Living Guide that WC and Canlan are producing next year.
"This guide might even help get things like Scouts and Guides back in this community because we can put out calls for volunteers through that."
