The 100 Mile-N-Hour U12 fastball team is preparing for upcoming provincials in Prince George from July 7 to 9.
On Jun 18 they played two exhibition games, one each against Williams Lake and Clearwater behind the South Cariboo Rec Centre.
“We won against Williams Lake,” with a final score of 16 to 10, according to Gwen Scott, team manager for the U12 team.
However, in their second game, they lost against Clearwater 16 to five.
“We had a little break in between the games. So, it took a little bit for them to get into the groove for the second game but they started off really well in the first game.”
“We know what we have to work on with the kids and we’ve got a few more practices before we go to provincials in a few weeks. It was just good for them to get out and we were missing a few players too.”
According to Scott, it was Quinn Carey’s first game pitching and he did excellently.
“We had a few that had some good hits. Mikaela Anderson, she was one, and Cameron Scott.”
Overall, they had a few good defensive plays, talking and covering each other, but they still need to talk and work together more, although it may have been in part because some players were missing, says Scott
Scott adds they’re hoping to be a good competitive team at the provincials and know where their competition is, with Clearwater being one of the strongest ones.
“We’ve beaten them once but they’ve managed to beat us the other times we’ve played them,” she says. “We’re hoping to place in the top three.”
They’re looking to match up against Williams Lake again before provincials but nothing has been set up yet, which is tough with the end of the school year, she says.
Scott’s been working with the kids since April.
“It’s amazing to see how much they’ve progressed.”
