Shriners dinner deemed outstanding

The Big Country Shrine Club King Crab and Prime Rib dinner-auction fundraiser was a huge success once again, with all 200 tickets sold out, packing the 100 Mile Community Hall on April 8.

Local Shriner Frank Dobbs says it all went well, as always, with plenty of positive comments received on the "outstanding" food that was served at this important annual fundraiser that helps local sick and injured children and their families first.

"We have already got people booking tables for next year," he says, adding there were many tables of families and friends enjoying this all-you-can-eat crab dinner, with delicious prime rib and an awesome auction.

Super auction items were snapped up as displayed on stage by Shriners Tony Brown and Glen Clancy, and their volunteer auctioneer, Donna Barnett.

While the final tally is still being calculated, Dobbs estimates the Children's Transportation Fund will get an influx of more than $20,000 for helping more local little ones suffering from illness or disfigurement.

Other donations of cash and all the auction items that brought in more for the fund were helpful to boost the total raised at the event, he adds.

"We want to thank everyone for all the support."

Over the years, Big Country Shriners have witnessed some great results for two little ones in particular who they helped finance to travel for treatments at Shriner Hospitals for Children, he explains. Dobbs says both are now adults leading productive lives that they otherwise would not have seen.

"Our gratitude is to 100 Mile, because 100 Mile always comes through, no matter what you do, helping the children."
