Please keep poorly behaved dogs on a leash

To the editor:

I once had a beautiful, well-socialized dog named Ellie.

I now have a dog that is scared of her own shadow.

I run several times a week on the 108 Lake trails with Ellie on a leash.

I cannot count the times Ellie has been lunged at, snapped at or chased by an off leash dog. She is a big dog but is now terrified of even the smallest poodle.

For those of you small dog owners who have laughed and found it funny while I physically drag my big dog by your yappy, little off leash dog – it really is not funny. I know there are dogs that are capable of being off leash and I have no problem with those well-controlled dogs. But unless you have instant, undeniable control over your dog, no matter the size, please have some respect for the rest of us and put your dog on a leash.
