To the editor:

To Prime Minister Trudeau,

I am a B.C. citizen and I want you to know that I am 100 per cent behind the recent decision by my government to have a moratorium on diluted bitumen proposed to be transported across our province from Alberta through the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

When you were campaigning to become Canada’s leader you told Canadians that you were strongly in support of thorough environmental reviews and that you believed “It is communities that grant permission.” B.C. does not want this pipeline and does not want bitumen shipping out from its coastal ports. Stop listening to the oil and gas lobbyists and listen to British Columbians and many other Canadians.

Our world is telling us that we have to stop building new infrastructure for fossil fuels. We need to, and should be willing to, suffer whatever consequences come from that.

People and the planet should matter more than big polluters. Respect this decision, respect the science and respect the communities that time and time again have told you, to stop Kinder Morgan.

Premier Horgan, stick to your guns – we’re behind you!

Environment Minister George Heyman, please do a thorough, scientific and unbiased review.

Premier Rachel Notley, we can, and will, sell our electricity and wine elsewhere.
