Marie Isobel PEARCE

May 30, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Isobel Pearce (nee Craig) on May 16, 2007. Marie died peacefully, with family by her side, at Lions Gate Hospital. Marie is predeceased by her loving husband, Dave Pearce (1993), and her brother, Justice William Craig. She is survived by her children: Allison (Ross) Cutler; Dave (Barb) Pearce; Kim Pearce; Cindy (Mark) Hartley; Barb (Pete) Johnsen; sister-in-law Betty Craig; 10 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1924, Marie attended Magee Secondary School in Vancouver before going on to UBC where she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work in 1946. She continued her education at Smith College in Boston, Mass. where she received a Masters of Social Work in 1950. The two most important things in Marie’s life were her family and her passion for giving back to the community. She was a tireless volunteer throughout her life, both on the North Shore and at Sheridan Lake in the Cariboo where she lived for many years. Marie touched many lives with her gentle spirit and wonderful sense of humour and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Dr. Edmunds for his care throughout the years. A special thank you goes to the staff of the emergency department of Lions Gate Hospital and the staff and volunteers at the Palliative Care unit of Lions Gate. You showed us that quality health care still exists. A celebration of Marie’s life was held on Thurs., May 24, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Martin’s Anglican Church, 195 East Windsor Road, North Vancouver. A second celebration will be held at Sheridan Lake at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the North Shore Community Foundation Founder’s Fund, 600 West Queens Road, North Vancouver, BC, V7N 2L3
