Linda passed away peacefully in 100 Mile House Hospital after a brief but determined struggle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Linda is survived by her devoted husband Howard Malm and by her beloved step-children: Ed Malm of Thailand, Ken (Jody) Malm of Sheridan Lake, Brian Malm of Fort St. John., Sharon (Dan) Stewart of Fawn Creek and Ruth (Barry) Peterson of Horse Lake. She leaves 11 cherished grand-children; Amanda, Loralie, Kelly, Jim, Josey, Ashley, Christopher, Robert, Jonathan, Jesse and Leah and 4 precious great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her siblings: Marilyn (Glen) Stephens, Gerry (Jan) Coukell, Gail (Ivan) Martinovsky, Joanne (Stephen) Meldrum, and Anita (Calvin) Meldrum. Also saddened by her loss is her treasured little dog, Ellie. Linda was predeceased by her parents Lenard and Betty Coukell and by her brother Bob Coukell. Born in Vancouver, Linda spent much of her early life in the Lone Butte – Bridge Lake area. After marrying Howard, they followed his work to Winlaw, on to Revelstoke, then to Fort St. John before moving to the Barriere area and finally back to Lone Butte during Linda’s illness. Sadly, her illness claimed her before she was able to join Howard in their new home. Although she was an accountant by profession and worked for many years in her field, her true calling was as a writer. She spent many long hours learning her craft and polishing her writing. Many children delighted in her published Christmas book “There Goes Santa”. As an involved community member, Linda was very active in the Women’s Institute for 18 years where she met many lifelong friends. Her happiest times, however, revolved around the constant flow of family and friends who made their way to their home. Whether they stayed for an hour, a day, or a week, they always left feeling nurtured, cherished and loved. Linda also loved to travel and she spent many hours daydreaming about her next trip. Funeral services will be held at The Roe Lake Hall, Friday, April 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 100 Mile House General Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 851, 100 Mile House, BC V0K-2EO for the purchase of a chemo pump or to the Lakeview Cemetery, C-68 Thomas Point Rd., RR#1 Lone Butte, B.C. V0K-1X0.
