Leo Edmond POIRIER

We regret to announce the passing of Leo Poirier at 100 Mile & District General Hospital on July 29, 2004. Leo was born in Fisher Branch, Manitoba on July 10, 1926. He’s survived by his wife of 47 years, Alda; his children Donna Perry of Calgary, AB, Mark Poirier of Hinton, AB, Shane (Brenda) Poirier of Fruitvale, BC, Todd (Patti) Poirier of 108 Mile Ranch, and Karen Poirier of 100 Mile House; and 10 grand-children. Leo moved to Canim Lake in the early days of the Jens Sawmill where he worked for several years. He was active with ball and called the square dances and also ran the Forest Grove Movies at the old Community Hall. Later he worked for Sandbacks with their portable sawmill at Fish Lake and Canim Lake. He was their faller and later the Cat Operator. When Weldwood took over and the small sawmills closed he worked for Noranda Mines as a mechanic until they closed. He worked briefly for Weldwood and then Ainsworth Lumber for 20 years until he retired. He enjoyed his family and summer home at Canim Lake. A celebration of his life will be held on Aug. 21 at 908 Jens St. in 100 Mile House from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
