It is with deep sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of John Edlund (Big John)

John passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of

June 14, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family for weeks leading up to his passing, after fighting a long hard battle with cancer.

John is predeceased by his father and mother, Carl and Janet Edlund; nephew, Glen Edlund; and sister-in-law, Linda .

John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anita Edlund; his daughter, Bobbie Hendley (Bob); his son, Chris (Shayla); grandchildren, Cody (Amy) Caili, Courtney (Richard) Kennedy, Hayley, and Payton; in addition, his great grandchild, Alice and future great grandson to arrive in September. He is also survived by his four brothers, David (Sharon), Lenard (Shirley), Alfred, and Gordon (Ruth); along with numerous nieces and nephews as well as tons of cousins .

John moved to 100 Mile House from Grande Prairie, AB in 1968 to work at the plywood plant, formerly know as Canim Lake Mills Plywood Plant and spent his evenings dining at the Exeter Arms Hotel, where he met his lovely and soon-to-be wife, Anita.

On February 12, 1972, John married Anita and adopted her daughter, becoming a family of three. In 1975 , they welcomed a son, Christopher Charles, into the world and the Edlund’s became a family of 4.

After many years working at the mill, John went on to manage the Lac la Hache Provincial Park, along with purchasing Redwood Food Store in 100 Mile House. After years of being a business owner, John returned to work for Ainsworth Lumber until he and Anita semi-retired and took their motorhome to Alberta, where they both worked until full retirement, returning then, to 100 Mile House to be close to their family .

There are so many friends who are more like family (and too many to mention) so we ask you to please feel free to share your stories and memories at the Celebration of Life being held on Friday, June 23, at 1:00 pm at Creekside Senior Centre in 100 Mile House. We look forward to listening to the memories you all have and sharing some stories of our own .

Beverages and snacks to follow the Celebration of Life.

John’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Street and the nurses of the 100 Mile District General Hospital for their kindness and support; it was greatly appreciated.
