Bert passed away after a long illness, at his home in the evening of Saturday April 18, 2009 with his devoted wife Gloria and daughter Monique at his side. He was 74 years old. Bert was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick on November 25, 1934 and moved to Vancouver in 1967. Bert and Gloria lived at the 108 during its inception in 1970 as part of the start up team with Block Brothers. They later moved to Alberta, then to Vernon, Salmon Arm, and Kelowna, only to return to the 108 in 2000 after having accumulated many friends and stories along the way. Bert will be missed for his keen sense of humour, his art of story telling, as well as his passion for golf and tennis. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Gloria, his daughters Monique (Darrell) and Suzanne (Mike); three sons, Michel (Carolyn), Luc (Lavone) and Charles (Kathryn); six grandchildren, Teylor, Kit, Aimee, Laura, Ben, Lauren, and great-grandaughter Natalie; sister, Mona Estey of Blind Bay; sister-in-law Laura (Henry) Block; nieces Terri (Harold) Richert, Linda (Wayne) Knowles, and Jackie (Dan) Martin, and their children. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, April 24 at 2:00pm at St. Jude’s Catholic Church on Horse Lake Road.
