Road safety in focus

100 Mile House RCMP responded to 93 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:

Road safety

Over the May long weekend, there was considerable focus on road safety and traffic enforcement. Between Traffic Services and 100 Mile House Detachment, there were four pro-active road checks and speed enforcements conducted throughout the area which resulted in seven warnings, 68 violation tickets, three liquor tickets and a three-day driver’s license suspension.

Roadside suspension

On May 22, Investigators from the Cariboo-Chilcotin Traffic Services located a vehicle parked on the side of Horse Lake Road. The male driver was woken up and he displayed symptoms of liquor consumption as well as there being open liquor in the vehicle. An approved screening device was administered at the scene. The result was a fail.

A second test was requested and the result was also a fail. The driver from the Lower Mainland was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and his vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.

Impaired driving

On May 19, 100 Mile RCMP and Traffic Services were conducting a check-stop on Horse Lake Road near the Interlakes Corner. The female driver of a Jeep approached the check-stop. During her interaction with officers, she displayed symptoms of liquor consumption. An approved screening device was administered at the scene. The result was a fail. A second test was requested and the result was also a fail. The driver from the Lower Mainland was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and her vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.

Crime Stoppers

Sometime between May 16 and May 18, a 14 foot Lund aluminium boat with a 9.9 Mercury outboard on an EZ loader trailer with B.C. plate ULP62L was stolen from a residence in the 7000 block of Womack Road in Deka Lake. Sometime within the last two weeks, unknown culprits broke into a residence in the 4800 block of Timothy Lake Road and some jewelry was stolen. An older Dodge pickup with inactive plates was also stolen from the property. If you have any information on this or any other crimes in the 100 Mile House area, call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Three vehicle collision

On May 17, 100 Mile RCMP responded to a three vehicle collision on Horse Lake Road at the intersection of Finn Road near 100 Mile House. The driver of a Chrysler Intrepid was eastbound on Horse Lake waiting to turn onto Finn Road. The driver of a Toyota Matrix was stopped behind the first vehicle. The driver of a GMC pickup was also travelling east on Horse Lake road. The driver of the third vehicle attempted to swerve and miss the stationary vehicles but side-swiped the Toyota Matrix and rear-ended the Chrysler Intrepid. No serious injuries were reported. The roadway was opened to single-lane alternating traffic until the vehicles were towed from the scene.

The driver of the third vehicle was issued a violation ticket.
