A two-person collision that closed down Highway 97 on Aug. 7 has left on person dead, say the RCMP.

At 9:33 a.m., RCMP were called to the scene of a crash on Highway 97 on the 103 Mile hill.

According to the RCMP, a south-bound Volkswagen Jetta had stopped in the travel portion of the highway to avoid a potential collision with two bears that were int he south bound lane. A south-bound dodge pickup collided with the Jetta.

There were three occupants of the Jetta, say the RCMP.

“Sadly, the person in the rear passenger seat of the Jetta was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said a release by the RCMP.

The others in the Jetta, as well as the occupants of the pickup were transported to the hospital. While the exact injuries are unknown, police say the extent of injuries range from minor to serious.

The RCMP continue to investigate, however they do not believe that speed or alcohol are factors in the collision.

They say the names of those involved are not being released.

Police ask that anyone with information on this matter to call the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250 395-2456.
