Two special events recently took place on the Mahood Lake Corridor.

On July 30, Mountain Spruce Community Centre Society (MSCCS) held a farewell barbecue for Sulphurous Lake’s John and Janet Ius. Although here for not nearly long enough, they made their presence felt.

John was a Deka Lake & District Volunteer Fire Department Captain, and Janet a member of their Ladies Auxiliary and a director of Deka Lake & District Ratepayers’ Associaton, and both were directors of MSCCS.

The couple will be sorely missed, and are wished every happiness as they join family in Nelson.

Then, on Aug. 7, at Deka Lake & District Ratepayers’ Association’s (DLDRA) annual general meeting, with MLA Donna Barnett in attendance, Secretary Penny Millway retired after an incredible 22 years on the board, 20 of it as secretary. Her absence will be very deeply felt. Thankfully, though, she is not leaving the area.

Both parties were presented with a limited copy of Bryan Austerberry’s very popular “Nightlife.”

After DLDRA’s meeting and, except for a secretary, the executive remains in office. Sitting directors comprise Sandy Amy, Kerrie LeGrand, Al Martin, Chris McGregor, Joyce Rowe and Richard Scott.

John Dick, Chris Schmidt, Ken Schmidt and David Scott were warmly welcomed to the board.

DLDRA also thanks other retiring directors: Jocelyne Colbert, Janet Ius and Barry Armatage.

New to Deka Lake

Deka is delighted to welcome Claudia Freeman. She is sister to the late Joyce McManus, and has moved into her home.

Congratulations

Birthday bubbly goes to Siana Kelly, Isabelle Poirier and for Dirk Verheuls’ 16th.
