The Deka Lake &District Volunteer Fire Department (DLDVFD) Ladies Auxiliary’s (LA) June 7 meeting, welcomed new member Lynn Black from Higgins Lake, and extended birthday wishes to Lori Anderson.
LA vice president Val Dennison, who chaired the meeting, awarded long service pins to Lorna Wiebe, 20 years; and Bev Traxler, 10 years. Not present to receive their pins were founding and longest-serving member, Ruth Allan, 35 years; and Ally White, 10 years.
The Welcoming Committee was advised that Barry Dennison has recently moved to Deka Lake.
The ladies then enjoyed a sumptuous potluck luncheon.
They will work the VFD fishing derby on the August long weekend, and then not meet until October 4.
Garbage
It was noted, after Deka’s May 28 clean-up that visitors over the long weekend seem to have a penchant for throwing stuff out of their vehicles—garbage, beer cans, water bottles. Those, added to what blows off pick-ups en route to the dump, make an unnecessary mess along our roads.
Those of us who live here would appreciate it if they disposed of such items responsibly.
Garage sale
Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department is looking for donations to its annual garage sale on July 1. Call Bill Versluis at 250-593-2398 to arrange to drop off your items or have them collected.
Celebrations
Birthday bubbly goes to Alamu Durand and Mary Weight. Many congratulations to Olga &Roy Tomlinson on their 67th wedding anniversary, June 16.
