The Lone Butte ladies O.U.T. group invited me to take a photo of two of the comfort quilts they made at their regular meetings held every Tuesday. I was impressed at the fine workmanship that goes into these projects and the OUT group reminds everyone that they don’t meet in July or August.

Community improvements

The Lone Butte, Horse Lake Community Association combined with members of the Lone Butte 4-H had a very successful work bee on Saturday, June 10 and built the new arena fence at the back of the community hall in just one day.

They are waiting for the next set of picnic tables to be completed for the upcoming Lone Butte Rocks (LBR) free family fun day that will be held on Saturday, July 15.

The Lone Butte Historical Association has begun work on the Caboose Museum expansion project and on June 15 the steel fabricated stairs were attached.

Jeff Mailhot from Jeff’s Welding was joined by Alan Boyd, our caretaker Doug Rogers and myself and despite the unusually cold weather, after five hours they were welded in place and look great.

We hope that ice cream will soon be available, perhaps even by LBR.

Lone Butte Rocks

On LBR, the Cariboo Ramblers will be playing at the Volunteer Fire Hall, Mark Allen will be playing at Water Tower Park and the main stage will be at the Community Hall with Pete Thorne and friends.

Chris the Clown will be at the fire hall at 10 a.m., Water Tower Park at 11 a.m. and the community hall by 12 for the pie eating contest.

Horse Lake Elementary

The final newsletter of the school year at Horse Lake Elementary School came out on June 15. The school primary fun day will be held on June 23 and Aboriginal Day was on June 21. The school air band contest was on Wednesday, June 14 and reportedly was lots of fun and the grade 6 - 7 girl group won the contest singing Light it up. The awards day is on the last day of school which is on Thursday, June 29.
