Bursary winner announced

The Seventy Mile and Area Community Fund received four applications for the annual bursary.

The committee met and selected Shanna Harris as the 2017 winner of the $400 bursary.

Shanna, granddaughter of Miriam Livingstone, will enrol at Thompson Rivers University in a management program and intends to move on to BCIT to study Occupational Health and Safety.

VFD news

The 70 Mile Fire Department was called out to two incidents. The first occurred May 19 at 11:30 a.m.

Two vehicles collided on Hwy 97 in town and one vehicle caught fire.

The second occurred on Hwy 97 at Cunningham Road. A vehicle rolled over and the jaws of life were called in from Clinton to extract the driver.

Poker

The next VFD poker tournament will be held June 11 at Elaine’s Poker Palace. Play starts at 12 noon. The attendance may determine the future of these tournaments.

Bingo

Bingo was held May 23 with the usual attendees.

The big pot is still growing.

Next game is June 13 at SMAC with play starting at 7 p.m.

SMAC news

The Seventy Mile Access Centre will hold a general meeting on June 14 at 10 a.m. at the Centre.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bookmobile

On June 15, the Thompson Nicola bookmobile will be at the South Green Lake Fire Hall from 10 to 11 a.m. and at the 70 Mile General Store from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
