As usual, at the May 21 Bake Sale, Deka Lake &District Volunteer Fire Department (DLDVFD) Ladies Auxiliary’s (LA) seven tables of delicious baked goods, including twenty pies, were reduced to a mere two tables by 9:45 a.m.

These were in addition to the dozens of doughnuts also sold.

The adult’s hamper was won by summer resident, Richard King of Squamish; while the children’s hamper went to 10-year-old Blaise Wilson of Prince George.

The LA is grateful to the public for its perennial support.

Fire ratings

Some person/s unknown is “monkeying with” the Fire Danger Rating Sign on Mahood Lake Road. Volunteers set the pointer to Low, Moderate, High or Extreme according to instructions from the Cariboo Fire Centre (CFC) and, in late May, someone kept moving it to Extreme.

This is extremely dangerous and will cause confusion or complacency amongst residents.

At worst, it could culminate in a wildfire that, according to the CFC, “with the right wind, would wipe out Deka subdivision.”

Clean-Up Day

LA president voiced her appreciation to those who came out for Clean-Up Day on May 29, and to the VFD for providing lunch at the fire hall.
